SXSW EDU

Join the Council at SXSW EDU Conference in Austin, TX, on March 3-6, 2025. You can find us here:

March 3 | 4:00 – 5: 00 PM | Invisible to Invaluable: Elevating Early Educators Meet Up | Hilton Austin Downtown Room 410

Early childhood educators instill a love of learning in children and set them on a path to lifelong success. Yet despite rising awareness of early brain development and the economic necessity of child care, the work of early educators has been largely invisible and undervalued. In this Meet Up session, we’ll share ideas for changing the narrative and increasing the visibility of ECE, tools for uniting and professionalizing this vital workforce, and how we can build a system that benefits everyone. Join the conversation and meet Dr. Calvin E. Moore, Jr., CEO, Council for Professional Recognition, and Jen Bradwell, co-director and filmmaker, Pizzicato Productions.

March 4 | 1:30 – 3:20 PM | Make a Circle Screening and Q&A | Austin Convention Center Ballroom A

Make a Circle is a film that follows early childhood educators who became unlikely activists, determined to change how society values their profession when jobs at McDonald’s offer better pay. Weaving together the magic that educators create in the classroom and the struggles they endure at home, Make a Circle culminates with thousands marching on their state capitol to demand better working conditions. View a moving portrait of life as an early educator and a promising blueprint for fixing our broken child care system. Then, after the screening, join filmmaker and co-director Jen Bradwell, Council for Professional Recognition CEO Dr. Calvin E. Moore, Jr. and film participant and family child care provider Patricia Moran for what promises to be a lively discussion.

Programming descriptions are generated by participants and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of SXSW.
