Meet Wilnara

Graphic Designer

“It’s okay to be yourself. It’s okay to be courageous, confident and fun-loving, too.”

For Wilnara Kendrick, these words are more than a mantra—they are a way of life shaped by her experiences growing up as a bilingual child of Haitian descent. Naturally reserved, she found her voice through the encouragement of her teacher, Mrs. Puryear. “She taught me to speak up for myself and to take pride in my culture and heritage,” Wilnara recalls. “As a child, having Mrs. Puryear as a role model showed me that it was okay to be my authentic self.”

As a graphic designer for the Council, this lesson in authenticity continues to inspire Wilnara today. Her designs focus on impactful storytelling through animation, color, photos, custom graphics and illustration. She strives to celebrate the achievements and impact of CDA educators on young learners, families and communities. Thanks to her own early childhood experiences, she understands firsthand the power educators have to positively shape young lives.

Outside of her work, Wilnara channels her creativity through sketching and painting, and embracing art as a universal language of self-expression. “Everyone can be an artist,” she believes. “It’s about finding a medium that resonates with you”—a belief she shares with educators who ignite the creative spark in young minds.

As a parent, her personal journey of self-discovery fuels her passion to mentor and inspire others to embrace their true selves. In every design she creates and every story she tells, Wilnara Kendrick weaves in the lesson that changed her life: It’s okay to be yourself—and to celebrate it boldly.
