WASHINGTON — The Council for Profession Recognition and its Child Development Associate® Advisory Committee urges all early childhood educators and other childcare center staff members to take the COVID-19 vaccine when they are offered it.

States are currently releasing the vaccine to childcare workers and others who have been deemed essential workers. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says the COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective.

The CDC encourages all Americans to review its information about the vaccines so they will have accurate details about administration, storage and handling, safety and reporting: www.cdc.gov/vaccines/covid-19/index.html.

Council CEO Dr. Calvin E. Moore, Jr., says, “Early childhood educators are indeed essential workers, and we appreciate the recognition of our role. I thank members of the CDA Advisory Committee for their diligence in reviewing the information about the COVID-19 vaccines.”

“By performing their important roles at the Council during this crisis, they have shown their leadership and dedication to early childhood education and the families they serve. I join them in encouraging everyone in the child care and early education field to take the vaccine as soon as it’s offered in their community. The Council will continue to work with other early childhood organizations to share more information about COVID-19 vaccines as it becomes available.”

The members of the CDA Advisory Committee are:

  • Patty Berron, Mission, Texas
  • April Bramble, Ellenwood, Georgia
  • Keisha McClendon, Atlanta, Georgia
  • Charvella McKaye, Columbus, Ohio
  • Gina Pope, Fairbanks, Alaska
